Give kids what they need to succeed—give them art!
It’s really very simple. Kids need art.
But our schools need help. They are facing the biggest funding cuts in decades. They are expected to do more with less. That’s why the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center has partnered with our community schools to deliver this critical aspect of education. Through our Art Start program for preschoolers, Friday Arts Academy for 1st-12th graders, and open arts classes for all ages, we are delivering all of the arts to as many students as we can reach.It’s not just that kids like art. Kids NEED art. According to the President’s Committee on Arts & Humanities, arts education provides a critical benefit to developing the skills that business leaders are increasingly looking for in employees: creativity, collaboration and innovative thinking. Research over the past decade reveals that effective arts education strategies for children, especially arts integration techniques, have yielded practical and impressive results in memory, focus, problem-solving and other areas of cognitive functioning, resulting in better academic performance. Not only that, students who routinely engage in the arts are cross socio-economic barriers that have previously limited scholastic success.
